Pinepac Forests

Pinepac Group manages three company forests strategically positioned within 50km of our Kumeu and Whenuapai processing plants. These forests cover a total area of approximately 1,150 hectares (2,841 acres), with over 800 hectares (2,000 acres) dedicated to planted pines. Since 1993, we have planted over 1 million seedlings in these regions.

AHUROA FOREST
Acquired from the Rural Bank in 1991, Ahuroa Forest, formerly under the ownership of North Auckland Forests, spans 133ha (328 acres) along the West Coast Road, accessible from State Highway 16. Entirely dedicated to Radiata Pine, the planting initiative commenced in 1974 and continues to this day.

ARAPARERA FOREST
Araparera Forest, spanning 168ha (415 acres), was established in stages by the Barr family between 1961 and 1972. Neil Barr, renowned as the pioneer of farm forestry in New Zealand, cultivated a diverse range of tree species here, including Radiata Pine, Macrocarpa, Kowhai, Sydney Blue Gum, and Southern Mahogany.

In addition to its planted varieties, Araparera is enriched with original stands of native trees, featuring impressive examples of Rimu, Nikau, Totara, and Puriri. These indigenous species are carefully conserved within the pine plantation, alongside two Maori Pa areas, recognized as significant historical sites.

Pinepac has implemented an extensive silviculture program at Araparera. Today, approximately three-quarters of this area boasts thriving, sustainably managed forest resources.

WAIONEKE PARK/FOREST FARM
Situated at Waioneke on the South Head Peninsula of the Kaipara Harbour this block was purchased by Pinepac in 1993. 570ha (1,408 acres) of the total 849ha (2,100 acres) are planted in Radiata Pine.

We continue to sustainably harvest structural, pruned and Roundwood pine from this forest.
