Pinepac Group manages three strategically located company forests within 50km of our Kumeu and Whenuapai processing plants. These forests cover a total area of approximately 1,150 hectares (2,841 acres), with over 800 hectares (2,000 acres) dedicated to planted pines. Since 1993, we have planted over 1 million seedlings across these regions.
AHUROA FOREST
Acquired from the Rural Bank in 1991, Ahuroa Forest, previously owned by North Auckland Forests, spans 133 hectares (328 acres) along West Coast Road, accessible from State Highway 16. The forest is entirely dedicated to Radiata Pine, with planting having begun in 1974 and continuing to this day.
ARAPARERA FOREST
Araparera Forest covers 168 hectares (415 acres) and was developed by the Barr family in stages between 1961 and 1972. Neil Barr, a pioneering figure in New Zealand’s farm forestry industry, planted a diverse range of tree species here, including Radiata Pine, Macrocarpa, Kowhai, Sydney Blue Gum, and Southern Mahogany.
In addition to these planted varieties, Araparera also houses original stands of native trees such as Rimu, Nikau, Totara, and Puriri, which are carefully conserved alongside two significant Maori Pa areas, recognized as historical sites.
Pinepac has implemented a comprehensive silviculture program at Araparera, and today, approximately three-quarters of the forest is sustainably managed, supporting a thriving forest resource.
WAIONEKE PARK/FOREST FARM
Located at Waioneke on the South Head Peninsula of the Kaipara Harbour, this block was purchased by Pinepac in 1993. Of the total 849 hectares (2,100 acres), 570 hectares (1,408 acres) are planted in Radiata Pine.
We continue to sustainably harvest structural, pruned, and roundwood pine from this forest, ensuring the long-term health and productivity of the area.
